About "Democracy Then and Now: Citizenship and Public Education"

For eight weeks leading up to the November elections, "Democracy Then & Now" will explore the central role of public education in the development of American democracy. Through a series of conversations, lectures, student projects, and voter registration drives, the initiative will engage students, faculty, staff and all Marylanders on the historical and contemporary relationship between public education and citizenship.

The initiative kicks off this Wednesday, September 7, with "Historic Visions of Education at UMD," a lecture by Professor Ethan Hutt.
