Critical Theory Colloquium

The final fall meeting of the Critical Theory Colloquium is on Friday, November 18, 4:00-6:00 pm, in Tawes 3132. All faculty and graduate students are welcome to attend.

The readings are now available on the Colloquium's secure web page. If you need login information for that page, please contact me (wcohen@umd.edu).

As a preview to the spring semester, the Colloquium will again meet on Friday afternoons, 4:00-6:00 pm. The meeting dates are: Jan. 27, Feb. 17, March 9, April 6, May 4, 2012.

The readings for Nov. 18 are:

  • Kath Woodward, Embodied Sporting Practices: Regulating and Regulatory Bodies (Palgrave Macmillan, 2009), ch. 2, "Body Matters."
  • Couze Venn, "Individuation, Relationality, Affect: Rethinking the Human in Relation to the Living," Body & Society 16, no. 1 (2010): 129-61.
  • Nigel Thrift, "Intensities of Feeling: Towards a Spatial Politics of Affect," Geografiska Annaler, ser. B, 86, no. 1 (2004): 57-78.
  • Lawrence Grossberg, "Affect's Future" (Reader).
