November 06, 2014 English | Center for Literary and Comparative Studies

The English Department is proud to announce that English major Lenaya Stewart has been named as one of the 2014 College of Arts and Humanities Dean’s Senior Scholars.

According to Dean Bonnie Thornton Dill, the selection committee was impressed with Lenaya’s extraordinary academic performance and strong letters of recommendation, unanimously naming her as the English Department’s Dean’s Senior Scholar. Lenaya will receive a monetary award of $1,000.

As an English major, and both a rhetoric and creative writing minor, Lenaya has demonstrated both academic excellence and involvement in community service. She is currently the President of the OAES-OMSE Academic Excellence Society, a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, INC. and of the National Society of Collegiate Scholars. In the English Department, she is a member of the English Honor Society and Sigma Tau Delta, and has served on both the STYLUS and Paper Shell Review editorial boards.

Lenaya’s campus activities, academic performance, and community service extend far beyond these memberships, and she has applied her knowledge of the humanities through her leadership and community involvement. The English Department wishes Lenaya luck in the future as she continues to embody her passion for English.
