Barry Lee Pearson Wins Independent Music Award, Among Other News

Congratulations to Barry Lee Pearson, for winning an Independent Music Award for his CD, Classic African American Songsters, Smithsonian Folkways 2014
According to the press release by the Smithsonian, all finalists are eligible for a Vox Populi, "voice of the people" award, with fan voting available online until Friday, September 11, 2015 at midnight. Various reviews and music blogs have praised the album, and Shore Fire Media suggests the recording "defines a genre." The album is part of a series titled Smithsonian Folkways. In addition to his work on Classic African American Songsters, Pearson works on other albums by Smithsonian Folkways, including Classic American Ballads, which features tracks written between 1836 and 1947. Pearson recently provided the critical and historical framework in an introduction in Pioneers of the Blues Revival (University of Illinois Press, 2014) and his album Classic Harmonia Blues was written up on Top40-Charts.com in 2013. Pearson's book, "Sounds So Good to Me": The Bluesman's Story was featured in 100 Books Every Blues Fan Should Own by Edward Komara and Greg Johnson.
