Additional GRB Awards for Department Faculty

June 30, 2010 English

It gives us inexpressible delight to announce that five more members of the English Department faculty have been given General Research Board Awards for the upcoming academic year.

We have three faculty members who were given semester awards for 2008-09.  They and their projects are:

Jonathan Auerbach, “Dark Borders:  The Un-Americanness of Film Noir”

Jane Donawerth, “Early Modern British Women, Reading and Writing”

Jeanne Fahnestock, “Melanchthon and the Art of Argument”

These recent awards bring the department’s 2007 number to eight (!), including seven in English and one in CMLT.  (The department’s previous highest total was four, which happened in 2005.)  It is especially gratifying to see recognition according by the campus to some many distinguished scholars in our department.

In addition to these awards, you will be delighted to know that two assistant professors have been awarded Summer GRBs.

Kimberly Cole, "'Soule is forme': Religion, Race, and Representation."

Jerry Passanante, "The Lucretian Renaissance: Matter, Poetry, and the Afterlife of Tradition."

Please join us in extending our enthusiastic congratulations to these extraordinary faculty members, who have developed fascinating and significant projects.
