Two English Majors Publish Critical Pieces in The Diamondback

December 10, 2015 English | Center for Literary and Comparative Studies

English majors Danny Alarcon and William Butts have recently published work in The Diamondback.

Danny's piece titled, "Firing Randy Edsall and accepting Koch money defy UMD's mission," is on academic freedom and the ways money may intercede in the University's affairs.

William's piece is titled "'Maryland Stadium' misses the mark," and speaks to the name of the University's football stadium, while urging readers to think critically on censorship and racial issues.

As Peter Mallios said in an email, "There is great power for our department in our students taking responsibility for meaningful public discussion of university affairs." Congratulations to these two students on their publications.
