The three resident units of the newly renovated Tawes Hall welcomed guests to their spacious new digs during last week’s reception. The $35 million project, nearly 15 years in the making, gives the Department of English Language and Literature, the Writing Center, and UMTV conference rooms, more classroom space, student lounges and newer equipment. Construction began two years ago.

Speakers at the event included President Dan Mote, College of Arts and Humanities Dean James Harris, Dean of the Graduate School Charles Caramello, Department of English Chair Kent Cartwright and English Professor Maynard Mack Jr., who read a poem written for the occasion, “Ode on a Restored Tawes.”

Testudo made a special appearance at the opening and took a moment to pose with Dean Caramello.
