The Professional Writing Program has had a busy spring. Keep reading to find out what they've been up to.
On April 10 and 11, Writing Center tutors and administrators attended the Mid-Atlantic Writing Centers Association Conference at James Madison University in Harrisonburg, VA. Presenting were Dionte Harris, James Gray, Doug Kern, Nabila Hijazi, Tom Earles, and Leigh Ryan.
Ann C. Bracken and Pam Gerhardt were among the readers at Baltimore's City Lit Festival at the Pratt Library on May 2.
Alexandra Calloway and Lyra Hilliard were selected to receive the English department's first Teaching Excellence Awards for Professional Track Faculty. They will be recognized at the English department's spring reception on May 13.
In June, Pam Gerhardt will be teaching a course on writing short narrative essays at the Writer's Center in Bethesda.
Danuta Hinc was interviewed by Lisa Morgan on NPR's Signal about her 9/11 novel To Kill the Other. The interview can be accessed at http://wypr.org/post/doctor-who-kill-other-and-bmore-en-espa-ol.
Donald McGlew was one of four professors honored on the field at halftime by the Men's Lacrosse team as a "Most Valuable Professor" for their work with university students. Donald was named by senior Ian Robertson. It is the second time he has been so honored.
Pam Orel was a panelist for the discussion "Supporting the Professional Writing Program with Online Modules—Collaboration and Engagement, Theory and Reality," part of the April 24 Innovations in Teaching and Learning Conference held at Stamp. The workshop discussed the evolution of the University Libraries' ELMS modules on information literacy, research pro tips, and core sources.
Jonathan Rick delivered a presentation on grammar and punctuation to PR News's Writing Boot Camp and spoke about native advertising to the national capital chapter of the Public Relations Society of America.
