Modernities Working Group

October 21, 2016 English | Center for Literary and Comparative Studies

The Modernities Working Group will present a lecture and discussion by narrative theorist, literary critic, film scholar, and media studies icon Garrett Stewart (U of Iowa).

Professor Stewart's talk is titled "Surveillancinema: Critique or Capitulation?" and will address the aesthetic forms of contemporary surveillance culture. Over catered lunch lunch, Prof. Stewart will give a brief presentation, followed by open discussion. To give background and shape to the discussion, Professor Stewart has generously shared a draft chapter-in-progress, forthcoming in the Cambridge Companion to Narrative Theory, on which he's eager to receive feedback. Note that this is not required reading.

All are welcome! Those who wish to attend but haven't yet RSVP'd should do so to brian.hochman@georgetown.edu ornathan.hensley@georgetown.edu.
