Leigh Ryan, director of the Writing Center, won the 2009 Ron Maxwell Award for Distinguished Leadership in Promoting the Collaborative Learning Practices of Peer Tutors in Writing. The award was announced by the Penn State Learning program at Pennsylvania State University.

Nominations Sought for Board of Regents Staff Awards

Members of the university community are encouraged to nominate exempt and nonexempt staff members for the 2009-2010 Board of Regents University System of Maryland Staff Awards. These awards are the highest honor that can be bestowed upon a staff member in the University System of Maryland, on the basis of demonstrated excellence in one of the following categories: Exceptional contribution to the institution and/or unit to which the person belongs, outstanding service to students in an academic or residential environment or extraordinary public service to the university or the greater community. Six individuals within the system will be chosen to receive awards: one nonexempt and one exempt from each of the three categories. Each recipient receives a $1,000 gift.

Nomination packages must be received by the University Senate Office no later than Friday, Nov. 20 and will be reviewed by the Senate Staff Affairs Committee. Select nomination packages will be forwarded to President C. D. Mote, Jr., for endorsement. Endorsed nomination packages will be sent to the Council of University System Staff for review. Nominations Sought for President’s Commission on Women’s Issues Awards

Nominations for the President’s Commission on Women’s Issues 2010 Celebration of Women are now open. Awards are given in four categories: Outstanding Graduate Student, Outstanding Professional Staff, Outstanding Woman of Color and Outstanding Woman of the Year.
