Department Welcomes Back Lazo for Alumni Lecture

Rodrigo Lazo, Associate Professor of English and Associate Dean in the School of Humanities at UC Irvine, will deliver the Second Annual Alumni Lecture on Friday, September 4.

Rodrigo Lazo, who received his PhD from Maryland in 1998, will deliver the Second Annual Alumni Lecture with a talk entitled "Inventing America (Again)." This talk will consider recent efforts to develop hemispheric American studies in light of the many conceptualization of "America" beyond and before nation.

Rodrigo LazoThe author of Writing to Cuba: Filibustering and Cuban Exiles in the United States (UNC Press, 2005), Professor Lazo has published widely in such venues as American Literature and American Literary History. At UC Irvine, Professor Lazo teaches courses in Latino literature, nineteenth century U.S. literature, and hemispheric American literature. Before joining the faculty at UC Irvine, Professor Lazo was a member of the English Department at Miami University in Ohio.
