The nationally ranked English Department serves a large and diverse student body through three degree programs: a nationally ranked Ph.D. program, a highly flexible M.A. program, and a distinguished M.F.A. program Our doctoral program provides specialized training in literary, cultural, and language studies in English for students who plan a career in higher education.  The intellectual rigor of the curriculum combines with attention to matters of professionalization and job placement to characterize the Ph.D program.  The M.A. level offers students a broad range of study in language and literature, thus making it an appropriate and engaging program for writers, teachers, and other professionals in the region, while also preparing a select group of students who plan to pursue the Ph.D.  Those enrolled in the M.F.A. program are provided advanced training in the writing of poetry or fiction by an exceptionally distinguished creative writing faculty.
