The UMD Video Game Journalism Club was started by student Michael Cutler, and is a new, up-and-coming video game club option for students who are interested in reporting on gaming news. The club's rising publication, Gaming in a Shell, is aiming to become the community's central news source for all things gaming related.

Danielle Gillis graduated from the University of Maryland with her Bachelor’s degree in both English and Journalism and a minor in Black Women’s Studies. She currently works as an associate producer for WJZ-TV, the local CBS news station in Baltimore.

Elizabeth Acevedo's novel, The Poet X, has won the Carnegie Medal. Acevedo is the first writer of color to recieve the award in the Medal's history. She earned her MFA in Poetry at the University of Maryland in 2016.

Ross Angelella, Emily Flamm, Heidi Scott, Radford Skudrna, and Dennis Winston have been promoted to Senior Lecturer.  Pamela Gerhardt, Mark Forrester, and Caroline Wilkins have been promoted to Principal Lecturer. Candidates for appointment to the rank of Senior Lecturer must demonstrate a sustained record of exemplary teaching and exhibit promise in the areas of research, service, mentoring, and/or program development.

Jeana DelRosso received her Masters in English from the University of Maryland in 1993 and her Ph.D in 2000. She also received a Graduate Certificate in Women’s Studies in 1998. Dr. DelRosso currently works as a professor at Notre Dame of Maryland University. In this interview, she shares her experience as someone with a degree in English, and offers some advice for English majors.

Andrew Katz's paper, which focuses on the culture around a method of investing that was new in the 19th century, known as speculation, in the U.S. and U.K. through literature, was recently accepted to several conferences and professional research competitions. His work was recognized at Stanford’s SRC as the top presentation in a qualitative social science.
