English Department Undergraduate Activities Grants

September 23, 2010 English

The Undergraduate Studies Office is very pleased to announce the availability this year of seed grants, up to $250, for events and projects designed to enhance the undergraduate experience of our English majors.

The first of these grants has been awarded and will help bring DC performance artist Silvana Straw to Tawes Hall in early November. Applicants must be undergraduate English majors and proposals must be designed to appeal to as many majors as possible. Beyond that, all thoughtful, imaginative (and legal) requests will be carefully considered.

Applicants should submit their proposals as a Microsoft Word document attached to a cover letter and sent to our Senior Advisor, Jennifer Ashlock, at jashlock@umd.edu. Proposals should include the names of all the students who have committed to working on the project, a detailed description of the project and a budget. Applications will be accepted as long as money remains to be awarded, but the earlier you apply the more likely you are to be funded. Feel free to collaborate with friends and apply as a team. You may also want to consult the new EUA president, Sohayl Vafai, who is most easily reachable at englishundergrad@gmail.com.
