In Memoriam, Nicholas Allocca

Nicholas Allocca, a dear friend and colleague to so many in our community, passed away unexpectedly on September 12, 2007.

Nick taught in the Professional Writing Program for many years, and previous to that earned an MFA in the Creative Writing program. A fiction writer, Nick published a novel entitled "Enemies," and had additional novels in manuscript form. Nick was well-loved by students and colleagues alike for his unique sense of humor and for the lively and enduring friendships he developed. While we celebrate his life, we also mourn his passing, and we miss his living presence among us.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to the University of Maryland College Park Foundation, in support of the Jimenez-Porter Writers' House.  Donations will be used to provide financial assistance to Writers' House students participating in study abroad. The newly established Allocca Award will be based upon financial need and academic achievement.
