Donald Hall Delivers Lecture on Academic Preparedness
July 13, 2010
Hall, an alumnus from the University of Maryland Ph.D. program, gave an enthusiastic and engaging talk to a crowd of eighty graduate students.
In his lecture, Hall recounted his "sometimes meandering" academic career that eventually led to his current position as Jackson Family Distinguished Chair of English at West Virginia University. Hall dispelled myths regarding academic and professional life, ensuring students that success is not quantifiable. Hall encouraged the students to value quality over quantity and to craft their own definition of a "successful academic life."
The lecture was followed by a question and answer session and a reception in Susquehanna Hall.
