Poetry Reading by Joseph Donahue Scheduled for April 29

June 22, 2010 English

The Senior Lecturing Fellow at Duke University will be reading and discussing his poetry on April 29 at 11:00AM in Tawes 2115.

Fresh off of his appearance at the "Rereading Poets Reading" conference, Joseph Donahue returns to Tawes to present his most recent work. He will also be discussing his career and poetic vision in a talk following the reading.

Donahue received his MFA and PhD from Columbia University and currently teaches creative writing at Duke University. He is the prolific and accomplished poet behind nine volumes of poetry, including Incidental Eclipse (Talisman House 2003), In This Paradise (Carolina Wren Press, 2004), and The Copper Scroll (Dos Madres Press, 2007). His poems have appeared in The Colorado Review, The Cincinnati Review, Literary Supplement, and The Village Voice.

Donahue's most recent book of poetry, Terra Lucida (Talisman House, 2009), forms part one of an "ongoing magnum opus." Nathaniel Mackey calls Terra Lucida "an astonishing work in which psychopompic dispatch and apocalyptic portent, by turns audacious and distraught, mix worldly exactitude with vatic unrest."

For those interested in an extra dose of "apocalytpic portent," Donahue will also be meeting with graduate students at 2:45PM in Tawes 2115.

Three readings by Donahue and interviews with the poet can be heard on the  "PennSound" podcast from the University of Pennsylvania Center for Programs in Contemporary Writing, available here.
