A Conversation with Ira Berlin

College of Arts and Humanities | English | History | Linguistics Wednesday, March 2, 2011 4:30 pm - 6:00 pm McKeldin Library, 6137

Distinguished Professor Ira Berlin will discuss his recent book The Making of African America: The Four Great Migrations.

Professor Berlin is one of the most eminent active American historians and has published numerous award-winning books on African American history.  “The Making of African America” offers a striking new interpretation of African American history, arguing that four great migrations between the seventeenth and twenty-first centuries lie at the heart of black America and its development, continually remaking aspects of African American culture, from language to religion to art.

The talk is part of the series "Speaking of Books … Conversations with Campus Authors," organized by the University of Maryland Libraries.

Copies of The Making of African America will be available for sale and signing by Professor Berlin.  Refreshments will be served.

The event is free and open to the public.
