Dr. Ralph Bauer promoted to Professor

Dr. Ralph Bauer has been promoted to the rank of Professor.

Recent publications include "The Crucible of the Tropics: Alexander von Humboldt’s Hermeneutics of Discovery" in The Eighteenth Century: Theory and Interpretation 59.2 (Summer 2018), as well as an edited collection with Jaime Marroquin Arredondo), Translating Nature: a crosscultural history of early modern science (University of Pennsylvania Press, 2019). His latest book, The Alchemy of Conquest: Science, Religion, and the Secrets of the New World (UVA Press) will appear in print in October. He is the general editor of the Early Americas Digital Archive, and is currently serving as associate dean for academic affairs at the College of Arts and Humanities. Dr. Bauer has been with the University of Maryland since 1998.
