Carnegie Medal Goes to Elizabeth Acevedo, First Writer of Color in Medal's History

Elizabeth Acevedo's novel, The Poet X, has won the Carnegie Medal. Acevedo is the first writer of color to recieve the award in the Medal's history. She earned her MFA in Poetry at the University of Maryland in 2016.

Elizabeth Acevedo has won several other awards for The Poet X, including the 2018 National Book Award for Young People's Literature, the Printz Award, and the Pura Belpré Award
