Gerard Holmes Upcoming Publications and Updates

Gerard's review of the edited volume, Whitman & Dickinson: A Colloquy (University of Iowa Press) will appear in the Spring 2019 issue of the Walt Whitman Quarterly Review. 

Also forthcoming this spring, “A Comparatist Approach to Rebuilding the Academic Humanities: Learn from Nonprofits,” will appear in the online journal Contemporaries, as part of a group of articles on new directions in public humanities.  The set of articles grew out of a panel, "Public Humanities and Comparatist Practice," at the March 2019 American Comparative Literature Association conference, where his talk was called "What the Academic Humanities Could Learn from the Nonprofit Arts and Humanities about Partnerships, Engaging the Public, and Rebuilding the Humanities."  Gerard also convened the panel "Emily Dickinson at Play" for the March 2019 Northeast Modern Language Association conference, and presented a talk, "'Make Me Bearded Like a Man!': Emily Dickinson and Circus Culture," at the April 2019 Popular Culture Association.  He will conduct archival research this summer, supported by an Endowed Summer Fellowship for Archival Work in English Studies and the Kate B. and Hall J. Peterson Fellowship at the American Antiquarian Society.  His final year of dissertation writing will be supported by a 2019 American Council of Learned Societies Dissertation Completion Fellowship.
