Local Americanists: Michael Gorra, "Gettysburg, at Not Yet Two: William Faulkner's Civil War"
On Friday April 11th, at 3:30pm in Tawes 2115, Michael Gorra, professor of English at Smith College, whose recent book on Henry James was nominated for the Pulitzer Prize, will be speaking on "Gettysburg, at Not Yet Two: William Faulkner's Civil War." UMD doctoral students Nick Slaughter and Brian Neil Davis will be providing short responses. Light refreshments will be served.
Prof. Gorra is the author of Portrait of a Novel: Henry James and the Making of An American Masterpiece (Norton, 2012); The Bells in Their Silence: Travels through Germany (Princeton UP, 2004); After Empire: Scott, Naipaul, Rushdie (U Chicago P, 1997); and The English Novel at Mid-Century (Palgrave, 1990).
