CTE Workshop on Teaching Philosophy

CTE Workshop on Teaching Philosophy

English Wednesday, April 15, 2009 12:00 pm - 1:30 pm Susquehanna Hall, 3109

Mark you calendars for the next English Department Center for Teaching Excellence workshop, which will take place on April 15 from noon until 1:30 pm in Susquehanna room 3109. The topic will be "Developing Your Teaching Philosophy."

The goal of this workshop is to facilitate graduate teaching assistants in identifying and articulating their personal philosophy of teaching, and to think concretely about how this teaching philosophy is or can be reflected in their classroom. We will discuss strategies for writing a Teaching Philosophy Statement, the one to two page document often required as part of the application process for teaching jobs in higher education as well as secondary schools. We will also look at examples of Teaching Philosophy Statements from graduate students who have recently secured academic jobs. Participants will leave this workshop with at least a page of brainstormed notes that can be used as a starting point for writing their own Teaching Philosophy Statement.

All members of our department interested in pedagogy are welcome to attend! A pizza lunch will be provided. Please email me if you have any questions.
