Maud Casey and Mary Helen Washington Receive Starred Reviews in Publishers Weekly

February 4, 2014

The current issue of Publishers Weekly (January 27, 2014) contains starred reviews of two forthcoming books by English department faculty: Maud Casey, The Man Who Walked Away (Bloomsbury), and Mary Helen Washington, The Other Black List: The African American Literary and Cultural Left of the 1950s (Columbia University Press).

Librarians and publishers rely on Publishers Weekly for information about forthcoming books, only a small fraction of which receive starred reviews, indicating works of particular excellence and interest.

The Man Who Walked Away is called a "beautifully crafted interweaving of image and observation, fairy tale and fact." The Other Black List is described as "groundbreaking" and "thought-provoking."

Congratulations to Maud and Mary Helen on this

recognition of their wonderful creative and critical achievements.
