Sigma Tau Delta Starts Students for Students

November 22, 2013

Sigma Tau Delta continues to advocate for English appreciation and training through their new outreach to local high schools with the Students For Students initiative.

Students For Students (SFS) is a traveling tutoring clinic founded and sponsored by Sigma Tau Delta, University of Maryland's English Honors Society. SFS asks high achieving University of Maryland English majors to donate a couple hours of their time every semester to join us as we travel to local high schools and work with high school students on their English homework, scholarships, and college essays. Our goals are to:

(1) further bridge the gap between the University of Maryland and local high schools,

(2) offer local high school students collegiate role models,

(3) raise college acceptance rates, and

(4) increase English appreciation.

SFS currently works closely with Career and College Pathways at Northwest High School, and plans to branch out to other high schools.

SFS is an initative funded by the English Department's Center for Literacy and Comparative Studies.
