Disability Studies in the Humanities Reading Group

September 19, 2014
2:00 - 4:00 PM

At the first meeting, we will discuss how we would like to use our CLCS grant, what readings we would like to tackle over the year, and a general discussion of disability studies (DS) as a theoretical and methodological approach to the humanities. So that we have a common language and understanding of DS as a field, I ask that you read three texts that will give you an overview of the issues and concerns within DS. The readings can be found here. For the chapter titled "Critical Perspectives on Disability, an Archive and Anatomy of Disability Myths," the first seven pages are the most crucial; you can skip the rest for this meeting.
