English Honors Thesis Play by Graduating Senior Julia Maier

Graduating senior Julia Maier will direct her Honors-thesis play, "A Rapture on the Lonely Shore," next Tuesday, May 15, in the Ulrich Recital Hall, at 4:00.

The play, a script-in-hand production to by Maryland students, is to do with the re-discovered recluse photographer Vivian Maier (1926-2009).

A vast cache of her pics found and celebrated near the time of her death catapulted her to posthumous fame, mostly because of --pace T.S. Eliot-- what the pictures suggest, not what they say.

The play's title is a line from "Childe Harold's Pilgrimage": "There is a pleasure in the pathless woods, / There is a rapture on the lonely shore, / There is society where none intrudes. . . ."
