ENGL437 - Contemporary American Literature

This reading-intensive course will offer students an advanced survey of U.S. fiction, non-fiction, drama, and poetry from the fall of the Berlin wall in 1989 to the present. Assigned material will include work by Karen Tei Yamashita, Michael Chabon, Junot Diaz, Gish Jen, Pat Mora, Marisela Norte, Jonathan Safran Foer, and more. Requirements: one long paper, final exam, quizzes, class presentations, and in-class groupwork. Additional note: this course has a heavy reading requirement of about 175-200 pages per week, so please make sure that your schedule will allow you to keep up.
