Spring 2015 Commencement

Upcoming Stage 2

The English Department's Spring Commencement Ceremony began at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 21, 2015. Graduates and their families gathered in the Reckord Armory to celebrate the accomplishments of our bachelor, master and doctoral students in English, Comparative Literature, and Film Studies. Over 100 graduating students and their families attended the ceremony and were inspired to begin their post-college lives in new and exciting ways by Commencement Speaker Lenaya Stewart, Class of 2015.

Ms. Stewart, who completed a Bachelor of Art in English and minors in Creative Writing and Rhetoric, emphasized that the training an English major provides in analytical curiosity, creative leadership, and persistance are important qualities graduates should use as they start their post-college careers. The work Ms. Stewart has already accomplished in her undergraduate career shows the effect of these traits on her scholarly pursuits. Ms. Stewart has analyzed and studied a variety of topics both on her own and as part of the Ronald E. McNair Summer Research Institute. In 2015 she was awarded for her undergraduate research by the University Library for her work analyzing the role of nature and metaphor in literary works. In addition she was recognized by the university as a "Terp Who Inspires".

The English Department is proud of the accomplishments of all our undergradutes and are excited for the many things they will be doing in the future.
