The Department of English boasts over sixty faculty at the professorial ranks, distributed evenly across the key areas of study and creativity in English language and literature. This distinguished group of scholar-teachers and creative writers collectively has published over 180 books and literally hundreds of scholarly editions, aricles, poems, and short stories. This faculty has conducted its cutting-edge research and creative work with the support of virtually every major national fellowship, including many awards from the Ford, Guggenheim, and Mellon Foundations, the National Endowment for the Humanities, American Council of Learned Societies, and the American Council on Education. Members of this faculty have also held residential fellowships at such prestigious institutions as the National Humanities Center, Princeton University Institute for Advanced Study, and the Stanford University Center for Advanced Study in the Behavioral Sciences.
