A list of some of the many awards, prizes, and publications English Graduate Students have gotten for the 2021-22 academic year.

2022 Dissertation Prizes

  • Carl Bode Prize (for the Best Dissertation on an American Subject): Hillary Roegelein (Ph.D. 2021), “The Art of Unemployment: Nineteenth-Century American Women Writers and the Search for Work.” Directed by Bob Levine.
  • Alice L. Geyer Dissertation Prize: Lindsey O’Neil (Ph.D., 2021), “Reparative Forms: Poetry and Psychology from the Fin De Siecle to WWI.” Directed by Jason Rudy.  

2022 Essay Prizes

  • Kinnaird Essay Prize for PhD Essay: Nat McGartland, “Land-based Feminisms in Australian Women’s Writing.”
  • Kinnaird Essay Prize for MA Essay: Daniel Pereira “Piercing the “Zone of Critical Distance”: Collage as a Method of Representing the Willemering Narrative.”

MFA Program AWARDS & PUBLICATIONS / AY 2021-2022

  • Leigh Ann Ruggerio (2005) won the Juniper 2021 prize for fiction for her novel The Unfollowers, which was published by the University of Massachusetts Press in 2022. She is a Professor of English at Great Falls College MSU.
  • Allison Wyss (MFA, 2012) published a story collection, Splendid Anatomies (2022) with Veliz Books.
