Center for Literary and Comparative Studies Sponsors New Year-long Series on Antiracism

Antiracism

The Center for Literary and Comparative Studies, the dynamic venue for critical and creative work at the University of Maryland, has launched its next year-long event series titled, "Antiracism: Research • Teaching • Public Engagement."

Drawing upon the flexibility of the virtual environment—all of The Center's programming in AY 20-21 will be virtual—the events will be committed to supporting the work of emerging, early-, and mid-career scholars and teachers, with a particular emphasis on welcoming BIPOC and BAME scholars and teachers in the US and abroad.

The Center envisions that these events will draw audiences from the University of Maryland and beyond with the intention to contribute to the development of antiracist scholarship and pedagogy, and to offer public engagement with our various communities beyond campus in the service of promoting antiracism in all its forms.

"With this series of events, we are honored to bring our departmental, campus, and wider communities in the US and abroad together to practice the vital, long-term work of antiracist research, teaching, and practice," says Tita Chico, the new Co-Director of the Center for Literary and Comparative Studies. "The Center will draw upon the strengths and interventions that our various fields within English offer, foregrounding how our scholarship and teaching model new, and more just, possibilities for all of us. In so doing, we hope to foster conversations about antiracism not merely as an add-on, but as a fundamental intellectual and civic principle."
