Martha Nell Smith received the Distinguished Alumni Award from Rutgers’s Livingston College on May 16. The Livingston College Alumni Association cited Smith’s accomplishments as an Emily Dickinson scholar, her award-winning books, her work on the Dickinson Electronic Archives, and her role as Founding Director of the Maryland Institute for Technology in the Humanities.

Women’s rights activist Francoise Jacobsohn and broadcast journalist Marla Diamond also joined Smith as honorees at the formal dinner reception.
