Passannante Publishes in Renaissance Quarterly

September 11, 2008

Assistant Professor of English Gerard Passannante has a new essay in the current edition of Renaissance Quarterly.

Renaissance Quarterly

The essay, entitled "The Art of Reading Earthquakes: On Harvey's Wit, Ramus's Method, and the Renaissance of Lucretius," concerns the 1580 earthquake in the Dover Straights, the largest recorded earthquake in English and French history. The essay uses the earthquake as a point of departure for exploring the ways in which a contemporary debate about literature, logic, and natural philosophy was carried out through the subtle mediation of classical texts.

Passanante's article is available online through the UMD Library Research Port.
