The Graduate Office is located in 2116 Tawes Hall. The Director of Graduate Studies is Professor Kandice Chuh. A member of the English Department faculty since 1996, Chuh is also affiliated to the UMCP American Studies Department and the Asian American Studies Program. Her research interests include 20th century U.S. American literary and cultural studies with an emphasis on Asian Americanist discourses, critical race studies, critical theory, and law & literature. At the graduate level, Chuh teaches such courses as ENGL 602: Introduction to Critical Theory; ENGL 631: U.S. American Literature, 1914-present; and ENGL 758: Critical Race Theory. The Graduate Placement Director is Professor Jonathan Auerbach. A specialist in U.S. American Literature, Film, and Literary Theory, Auerbach also acts as the campus Fulbright Advisor. His recent publications include Body Shots: Early Cinema's Incarnations (California, 2007). Ms. Manju Suri is the Academic Coordinator of Graduate Studies. Through her many years of work in that capacity, Suri has come to know the program and the institution thoroughly and is an integral part of English Graduate Studies at UMCP. Suri advises graduate students in all technical aspects of their programs and works especially with MA degree students as an advisor. Ms. Michelle Cerullo is the Graduate Studies Graduate Assistant. A master's student in History at UMCP, Cerullo's research interests are in contemporary U.S. American history of sexualities.
