Pedagogy Workshop - Fostering Discussion

How do effective teachers create a classroom environment that promotes and sustains discussion? Panelists Professor Zita Nunes and TAs Nancy Stewart and Liz DePriest will talk through general approaches and specific activities for generating discussion in lecture discussion sections and independent courses. This workshop will also address the professionalization component of teaching at Maryland: What do professors look for in their TAs? How can graduate students go about developing a strong professional relationship with professors and faculty mentors in a teaching context?
