ENGL265 - Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Literatures

Exploration of literary and cultural expressions of sexuality and gender, studying a range of literary genres, such as essays, novels, poetry, & film -- & featuring such queer artists as Audre Lorde, Leslie Feinberg, James Baldwin, Marlon Riggs, Essex Hemphill, Oscar Wilde & Pat Highsmith. Topics include sexual norms and dissidence, gender identity and expression, the relationship between aesthetic forms and sexual subjectivity, with particular focus on how sexuality and gender intersect with other forms of difference, including race and class. The course is divided into three 2-week sections, with each 2-week culminating in a 1,000-word essay. Each essay is worth 25% of your final grade.
