ENGL304 - The Major Works of Shakespeare: Power, Sorcery, and Forbidden Love

This course will explore the beauty and magic of Shakespeare’s drama and poetry. We will read plays such as Antony and Cleopatra, The Tempest, Richard III, and Comedy of Errors, in addition to a selection of poetry, including sonnets and The Rape of Lucrece. We will situate the works within their historical moment, discussing issues ranging from politics to magic, from religion to gender and race.

Prerequisites: 

Two lower-level English courses, at least one in literature; or permission of department. Not open to students who have completed ENGL403 and ENGL404.
