CMLT679T - Topics in Comparative Studies; Seminar in Poetry Translation

This class will engage practical and theoretical problems of translating poetry.  Readings will explore a wide range of historical, aesthetic, and theoretical issues regarding translation, while exercises and an in-depth project will give students practical experience translating poetry.  There is no requirement for fluency in a language other than English, but students will find some competency or at least a welcoming attitude toward a foreign language useful. A desire to write and revise poems is also essential.
