ENGL631 - Readings in 20th Century American Literature

Other American Aesthetics Mallios, English 631, Spring 2016 We will explore 20th/21st century U.S. and other American literature in relation to both dominant theoretical accounts of modernism, postmodern, and contemporary literature, and, more focally, ethnic, transnational, and otherwise global literary practices that complicate these dominant accounts. Primary literary authors may include: Pauline Hopkins, Theodore Dreiser, W.E.B. Du Bois, Mourning Dove, Katherine Anne Porter, Jovita Gonzalez, William Faulkner, Miné Okubo, John Hersey, Gabriel García Márquez, N. Scott Momaday, Maxine Hong Kingston, Theresa Cha, Octavia Butler, Leslie Marmon Silko, Chérrie Moraga, Don DeLillo, Jessica Hagedorn, Michael Nava, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie.
