ENGL404 - Shakespeare: The Later Works

One of the most famous English language poets was also one of the most successful playwrights in the history of the theatre. As we consider plays such as Hamlet, Macbeth, King Lear, Antony and Cleopatra, Titus Andronicus, and The Tempest, our task will be to understand the unique nature of the interpretative problems confronting dramatic texts.  In addition to consistent lively participation, you will be expected to complete several reading quizzes, two essays and a comprehensive final exam.  You are also required to participate in a final scene performance that will involve memorization and collaborative group work. 

Prerequisites: 

Two English courses in literature; or permission of ARHU-English department.
