Detailed study of selected major texts from the 19th and 20th centuries. Transitions from Romanticism to Victorian age to Modernism. Historical, social, literary contexts. Drama, poetry, political writings, and early novels by men and women. Authors may include Donne, Milton, Jonson, Behn, Swift, Pope, Montagu, and Wollstonecraft.

Prerequisites: 

Two lower-level English courses, at least one in literature; or permission of department.
