ENGL278C - Introduction to Creative Writing: African American Perspective
101 - Russel, Valerie

An introduction to creative writing using the works of mainly African American authors.  Students are introduced to the 4 genres of creative writing (creative essay, fiction, poetry, and drama), and are taught the history of African American Writing in the U.S.  Students also learn about some important African American writers, and are taught both the language and the critical thinking skills necessary for analyzing a piece of writing. This is a workshop class that relies on the students' own work to introduce the writing workshop process and its benefits in reviewing, revising, and editing work.

Repeatable to 9 credits if content differs.
