ENGL479F - Selected Topics in English and American Literature after 1800; Walking and Writing: The Plays, Screenplays and Teleplays of Aaron Sorkin

This course will look at Sorkin’s work over the last 30 years. We will consider his devices and desires, to find what breeds about his heart. The point is to learn the Sorkin technique so that you can think more clearly about your own writing.  Each student in the course will write her or his own pilot teleplay, screenplay, or stage play. Students must use professional formatting software for this. Students will also write an additional 20 pages of papers on various topics. You will also be required to see a professional play on the D.C. stage. This course also has an optional “lab” session meeting from 6 to 8 each Monday night.
