ENGL448A - Literature by Women of Color: Caribbean Literature by Women

On this course, we will use the term "women of color", normally a descriptive term in the United States, to consider literature by women of the Caribbean. Among writers to be discussed are Erna Brodber (Jamaica), Maryse Condé (Guadeloupe), Merle Hodge (Trinidad & Tobago), Nancy Morejón (Cuba), Diana MacCaulay (Jamaica), Simone Schwarz-Bart (Guadeloupe) and Evelyne Troulliot (Haiti).

Repeatable to 9 credits if content differs. Also offered as: WMST448. Credit only granted for: ENGL448 or WMST448.

Prerequisites: 

Two lower-level English courses, at least one in literature; or permission of ARHU-English department.
