ENGL379J - Special Topics in Literature: Representing the Holocaust

In “Representing the Holocaust” we consider the relationship between historical cataclysm and literary representation. With the understanding that there is no such thing as a “transparent” literary or cinematic text that captures historical reality without any mediation on the part of an author, a narrator, or the conventions of literary genre, we will explore the “limits of representation.”

Repeatable to 9 credits if content differs. Also offered as JWST419J. Credit will be granted for: ENGL379J or JWST419J.

Two lower-level English courses, at least one in literature; or permission of ARHU-English department.
