Syllabus:
Section(s):
0101 - Turner, Valerie

An introduction to creative writing using the works of mainly African American authors.  Students are introduced to the four genres of creative writing (creative essay, fiction, poetry, and drama), and are taught the history of African American Writing in the U.S.  Students learn about some important African American writers, and are taught both the language and the critical thinking skills necessary for analyzing a piece of literature. This is a workshop class that relies heavily on the students' own work to introduce the writing workshop process and its benefits in reviewing, revising, and editing work.

Also offered as AASP 398W. Credit will be granted for one of the following: AASP28W or ENGL278C.
